Following unprecedented growth in autogas consumption over the last decade, Poland has emerged as the world's largest market after South Korea.
The growth in consumption has been driven by rising taxes for gasoline and diesel. Since joining the EU in 2004, Poland has been required to increase taxes on gasoline and diesel to levels close to those of existing member states. Many Poles, both individuals and businesses, have turned to autogas to avoid higher priced gasoline.

Poland nurtures autogas growth: in the second and final instalment of the annual LPG World autogas survey, we look at two of the biggest success stories--Poland and Turkey. Both countries have seen astonishing rates of growth this decade.
Poland's autogas consumption rose by more than 18pc to 1.74mn t last year, according to preliminary data from the Polish LPG Association (PLPGA), confirming the country's position as the largest autogas market in the EU. The PLPGA is expected to release official autogas consumption figures this month.
High gasoline prices, which encourage motorists to look for cheaper options such as autogas, combined with a government crackdown on illegal sales of cylinder LPG for car use are the main reasons behind the rapid growth. Autogas represented a massive 72.5pc of Poland's total LPG consumption in 2005, up from 68pc in 2004.
